We’re on TV

I have some exciting news! Vision Quest Coaching was featured on the WGN-TV morning show on Monday, August 2. For VQ members, this meant a chance to be on a live TV segment direct from VQ Highland Park. The “extras,” or VQ members, would be throughout the facility, doing their Tuesday Intensity Ride on the CompuTrainers, running on the treadmills and strength training on the mat space. Meanwhile, the report would show what Vision Quest is all about–followed by a feature on Trek of Highland Park. Not a bad morning to be a cyclist.

Roger Delanghe Trophy Race

Tomorrow marks the return of an event I won years ago, the Roger DeLanghe Trophy Race. Held at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook, it’s also one of my favorite local spots to race. And when an email reminded me last night of the upcoming event, I wanted to write a little about it because there are some great things happening around this year’s race.

When the Roger DeLanghe race kicks off tomorrow night, there will be an Olympian among the start field. The Northbrook Cycling Committee, which helps organize the race, told me that Colby Pearce, a 2004 Olympian who finished 14th in the points race, will be racing. Colby and I grew up cycling around the same time and he’s excelled at the endurance track events, winning national and international events, and competing in numerous Six Days events. He could take home some of tomorrow’s $1,500 prize purse too–this race pays the first 25 riders who finish.

Or if you can’t make Thursday’s event, try to head to the velodrome on Saturday for one of Pearce’s cycling clinics. The first one starts at 9 a.m. on August 7 and includes a 60-minute lecture plus a 60-minute track-side clinic. The second clinic gets underway at 1 p.m. with a PowerPoint presentation about how to train for track cycling endurance events. Or click this link for more information.

I should also add that this race is touted as brutally fast so if you do come out to watch or race, you’ll be in for a night of excitement. Read more about it here.
